June is such a wonderful month here on the Oregon Coast. The weather’s getting warmer, the days are at their longest, and there is no shortage of activities to keep you and the family entertained. Most notably in June is the semiannual Kite Festival. Beginning in 1978, the summer and fall Kite Festivals quickly became a staple of Lincoln City summers. This summer’s festival officially falls on June 27th and 28th, but the festival unofficially kicks off on the 26th with the “World’s Largest Kite.” This American Flag kite is 10,400 square feet and weighs 500 pounds!
The festival is centered at the D River Beach Access. The Inn at Wecoma is situated just 1.5 miles from the action! Parking is a premium during the festival, so why not leave your car and rent one of our bikes to head to the fun? Lincoln City also offers kite shops around town, so you can practice to be like the pros. NW Winds & Winddriven are just a couple of places to purchase your own kites. And we would love to help your kiddos have a blast at the beach – mention this blog and we’ll give free kites to the children!
